Abstract

The objective of this research was to analyze the impact of collaborative governance on the facilitation of knowledge transfer and investment for the adoption of circular economy models in micro and small enterprises, as well as its contribution to the sustainable and equitable regional development in Mexico. A quantitative, non-experimental method with an explanatory scope, cross-sectional design, and partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was applied to a sample of 107 economic units. The main contribution lies in the empirical validation that the adoption of the circular economy acts as a significant mediation variable between collaborative governance and sustainable regional development showing that collaboration is a key factor which enables the transition to the circular effect. The results explain 51.8% variance in sustainable regional development.
