Exploring Challenges of Academic Life: Influence of Socio-Demographic Characteristics on Students' Well-being

Explorando los desafíos de la vida académica: influencia de las características sociodemográficas en el bienestar estudiantil

Abstract

This article discusses research on the well-being among female engineering students. A previously validated 17-item instrument was used to measure the variable under study based on three dimensions: vigor, dedication, and acquisition. The sample consisted of 61 undergraduates ranging from first-year to senior year students. Findings revealed average values for the three dimensions; this indicates the need to develop actions to help monitor students well-being to prevent low levels from influencing their academic performance.

Resumen

El presente artículo trata sobre el estudio del bienestar estudiantil en mujeres universitarias estudiantes de ingeniería. Se utilizó un instrumento conformado por 17 ítems previamente validados para medir la variable bajo estudio a partir de tres dimensiones: vigor, dedicación y absorción. La muestra se conformó por 61 estudiantes universitarias desde nivel principiante hasta avanzado. Se encontró que las tres dimensiones presentaron valores medios; esto indica la necesidad de desarrollar medidas que ayuden a monitorear el bienestar estudiantil para evitar que un nivel bajo influya en el desempeño académico.
